COMMITTEE ON APPROPRIATIONS,
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
WASHINGTON, D.C.,

January 31st, 1906

Miss Sophonisba P. [Breckinridge],
University of Chicago,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Madam:

I am in receipt of your letter of the 27th int. calling my attention to the imperfect investigation on the subject concerning which you, together with Miss [Addams], interviewed me a few weeks ago; and also calling my attention to the Report on the Statistics of Employment of Women and Girls made to the Board of Trade and presented to Parliament in 1894.

If there is any legislation authorizing an appropriation for this purpose, I will then give the matter careful consideration.

Very truly yours,

J. A. Tawney [signed]
