My dear Mr. DeForest:

I regret exceedingly that your very kind invitation to take lunch at the Midday Club to meet Mr. Graham R. Taylor, Mr. Edward Eyre Hunt and Mr. Arthur H. Gleason, only reached Chicago after Miss Addams had left the city for a six weeks stay in Colorado. I will send the invitation to her and in the meantime am sending you this word of explanation.
