PERMANENT PEACE

ROOM 500. 116 S. MICHIGAN AVE.

My dear Miss Wald:

I am so anxious to see Mr. Battin before he sails for Europe on the 13th that I am going on to Philadelphia with Mrs. Kelley Tuesday evening, arriving there Wednesday, January the 10th, at 3:00. I will stay with my cousin, Miss Clara Young, 6320 Overbrook Avenue, Overbrook, which is a suburb of Philadelphia, and really a part of the town.

Mr. Battin's messages from Dr. Jacobs and recent <replies to> letters from the referendum letters from the English women make it seem probable that we will have to reconsider some of our plans for the Congress After the War. I am, therefore, calling a meeting of the "Committee of Five" to meet in Philadelphia in the Aldine Hotel on Chestnut Street, near Fourteenth, at 11:00, Saturday <Sunday> morning, January 13th. <14.> Couldn't you meet with us, not only because you are Treasurer of the Committee, but because we need your help and advice.

I have [today] secured three contributions of $500 each for the fund. Can you think of any victims in New York? Our sum total is now $5,500. If we can get $10,000 promised, I am going to Detroit to see Mrs. Ford.

It was awfully nice to have your letter.

I am

Always devotedly yours,

Jane Addams [signed by secretary]

<P.S. A telegram just received makes it desirable to change the meeting to Sunday the fourteenth, at the same hour and place.
