Biographical Text

William Morris was a key figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement. After exploring several mediums of producing art, Morris discovered a passion for textile design. He had his own business, where he made innovations in both textile and decorative art and design. Morris was also a writer, working primarily in the fantasy genre. His essays and poetry would go on to influence writers like James Joyce, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis. As a writer and an artist, Morris started Kelmscott Publishing in 1891 and published illustrated books. He was a part of the early Socialist movement in England. Morris died in 1896.

Morris married Jane Burden in 1859.
