My dear Mrs Thomas

I have taken the greatest pleasure in knitting a sweater for your baby but it became so grimy in the process, that it had to be washed in soap and water.

As you see "it stiffened up on me", as my neighbors would say, but I am sending it along for his hygienic [outdoor] naps and some [page 2] day, I hope to do him another softer and bigger. May I send this one with my congratulations and best wishes.

Affectionately yours

Jane Addams
