AFFILIATED WITH NATIONAL COMMITTEE
Palo Alto, Cal. February 10, 1917.
My dear Miss Addams: --
Your letter of the 7th., inst. has just come to hand, and while I agree fully that it would be an excellent plan to have a conference in the near future, I regret exceedingly that I will be unable to attend as I have only just reached home from my eastern trip.
I think it would be well in calling a conference to have State chairman and delegates if possible, for the inspiration that is carried out from such a meeting is always helpful to the cause.
All of my time since my return two weeks ago has been devoted to formulating with our committee, a plan for state-wide campaign in the interest of our bill. [page 2] We hope to carry it to a successful issue, but we have a great deal of opposition.
The National committee has been of great assistance to us. I have not asked permission to use their names, and I hope I have not been [presumptuous].
Hoping that you will be able to convene a splendid conference, and regretting that I shall be unable to attend, I am,
Most sincerely yours,
(Mrs. C. E.) Katherine D. Cumberson. [signed]
