Dearest Miss Addams,

It is so wonderful to see -- and read -- your beautiful book. Nisba & I have both been reading it in the interstices of classes & such and we find it so absorbing that we forget that we used to think the Devil Baby an old story. I shall be eager to hear what the sociologists think of your contribution to their field. I am sure they will think it of very great scientific value. But of course most people will just enjoy it because it is so interesting and so true and yet so new! This is just a "hasty word" to tell you how grateful we are to have had this early chance at it. I can't really read it through till after my Friday classes when I am a free citizen for a few days.

Miss Smith said you were rested after your [written in right margin] Cedarville trip and we are so glad. [end of fragment]
