Biographical Text

Carl Theodor Körner was a German-born poet, and later, soldier. After finishing school, Körner moved to Vienna from Dresden. In addition to writing poetry, he also wrote various operas and plays. In 1813, Körner joined the military and left Vienna. He continued to write even while in battle. Körner died in 1813 from complications due to injuries he sustained on a military mission.

Körner was betrothed to Antonie Adamberger, a stage actress, but the two were never actually married, due to the the poet's untimely death.
