Biographical Text

Yamei Kin was born in Ningpo, China. After Yamei's biological parents died of illness, she was adopted by American Christian missionaries, and the new family moved to Japan. Kin grew up in Japan but decided to attend medical school at Women's Medical College of New York, a school affiliated with Cornell University. After completing her graduate degree, Kin returned to her homeland of China and worked as a physician there. With Kin's help, the Chinese government established the first medical school for women. Although Kin acknowledged China as her home, she traveled to the United States and Japan frequently in order to give lectures. Kin died in 1934.

Kin married Hippolytus Laesola Amador Eca da Silva in 1894. The couple had one child together, Alexander Amador Eca da Silva. The marriage ended in divorce in 1904.
