Biographical Text

Algie Martin Simons was a social worker, economist, and writer. He was heavily influenced by Marxism and socialism. Aside from Marx and Engels, Simons was influenced by the writings of his college professor, the historian William Frederick Turner, and Turner's Frontier Thesis. He was a proponent for Marxism and the American Socialist Party, of which he was a founding member. He was an editor of The International Socialist Review from 1900 to 1908. Simons changed his mind about his economic and political views around the time of World War I.

Simons married May Wood in 1897. The couple had one daughter, Miriam. Simons died in 1950.
