Biographical Text

Gino Speranza was an attorney and legal counselor to the Italian Consulate General in New York. He helped to found the Society for the Protection of Italian Immigrants. Speranza later wrote on his theories of the Anglo-Saxon/Protestant nature of American culture. Perceiving immigration to be the disintegration of American society, his later life was focused on extreme positions to stop the flow of immigration and restrict voting rights of current foreigners.

Speranza married Florence Colgate in 1909.

Addams and Speranza often corresponded on the plight of immigrants. Both brought each other information from their respective cities on the issues that immigrants face concerning the law.
