COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY
EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT
FRANKFORT

April 7, 1915.

Miss Jane Addams is going to Europe, sailing on the [Noordam], Holland-American Line, April 13th, 1915, in company with Miss Edith Abbott, Secretary of the Immigrants Protective League, and Miss S. P. Breckinridge, for the purpose of attending the Conference to be held at The Hague, April 28th, 1915.

Miss Addams is the head of the Hull House and probably the most influential and useful private citizen of Chicago, while Miss Abbott, Secretary of the Immigrants Protective League, has rendered splendid service in protecting the immigrant women, not only when they land, but after they leave the port of entry, and Miss Breckinridge is Assistant Dean of Women of Chicago University, lecturer in the law school there, head of Civics and [Philanthropy] and the author of a number of books on social and civic problems, including one of legal tender that, I am informed, is recognized as authoritative for the universities of the United States.

Miss Addams, Miss Abbott and Miss Breckinridge are three of the best and worthiest women in our country, and I bespeak for them every proper courtesy and attention from all whom they meet.

Respectfully,

James B. McCreary [signed]
Governor of Kentucky.
