My dear Mr. Du Bois: --
I have been to so few meetings of the Board of Directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People that I feel quite out of touch with the internal affairs of the association.
The latter proposition you make seems fair, of course, but I should rather not vote on it until I know a little more of the situation leading up to it. I have always supposed that Mr. [Spingarn] would be very liberal in his relations with other people. May I hope to see you the next time I am in New York and perhaps be of some service to you <then.>
Sincerely yours.
Jane Addams. [signed]
