Dear Miss Addams:

I regret that previous engagement will prevent my accepting the Hull House invitation to meet Mrs. Lawrence next Sunday afternoon. I rejoice in her work and I hope I may be able to meet her. Wish I could do something to promote her. Everything that will help give expression to the pacific ambitions, or failing that, the indignations of the citizens of Chicago is to be encouraged in these days.
