My dear Mr. Brett,

I have signed the enclosed document with which Mr. Ely presented to me, only after his assurance that it was possible to allow three years between such signing and the appearance of the book. I have written only one chapter though I have the subjects and some material for the others. I find little time for writing and my ideas are as yet by no means clear. I should be most pleased to have the [page 2] announcement deferred until more of the <book> is actually on paper. Thanking you for your liberality in the matter. I am faithfully yours
