Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Miss Addams:

My telegram may have implied that the Progressive speakers were not pushing suffrage. While this is true of several that have come into Wisconsin, Judge [Lindsey] gave us a great boost. The brewers' had gotten out literature concerning Colorado laws which [are] fictitious and we were unable to make the corrections through the papers. The papers here are largely controlled by the brewers' so that when Judge [Lindsey] read those extracts from the Free [Press] and denounced them in no uncertain terms, as infamous lies, it was a great thing for us. It takes courage for a politician to speak for suffrage in Milwaukee.

We feel well satisfied with the way our campaign is progressing. Of course the brewers may employ some last tactics that will defeat us, but we are hoping that our corrupt practices act will protect us.

With best wishes,

Item Relations
