My dear Miss Monroe:-
May I ask you to look over the enclosed poems. They were written by an Italian boy whom we have known for some time. He was a stenographer but contracted tuberculosis and has since been unable to do any work, spending the most of his time reading and writing poetry.
To me the poems seem to have unusual promise. Could you write me a frank opinion of them, as we are casting about to have them published. I shall be very grateful indeed to you for this help.
Sincerely yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
