My dear Mr Taylor

May I thank you for your all too kind review of my book in The Survey? I wish I really deserved what you say of me -- it makes me feel very humble and unworthy.

I did try very hard to make an honest record, but life has been pretty complicated and the way by no means clear. [page 2] I am sure you know how much I prize your friendship and good opinion, and how far both have helped on the long road.
