Dear Miss Smith, --
This is Mrs. Fisher, the mother of Mrs. Burgess in Peking who is writing. I had hoped to see you and Miss Addams long e'er this but want you to know how very much we have sympathized with you and Miss [page 2] Addams in the operation and consequent weakness.
Having been a month at St. Luke's myself I know how tedious the getting a little better each day can be. My daughter has written how much she and her friends enjoyed your visits and addresses in Peking, and Misses Porter and [Mahlon?] have told me how brave [page 3] you both are over the enforced rest and change in your plans.
I myself am planning to go to Nikko on Saturday and hope to call on you en route. But if at any time I can do anything for you I shall be only too glad to be of service.
I had hoped to have you in our home in Yokohama, and trust the [page 4] pleasure is only postponed.
With all good wishes for a speedy recovery even in this unfavorable weather, I am
