HOTEL JEFFERSON
ST. LOUIS
Dearest
Here is Mrs Toole's letter which [fills] me with dismay. Why do we have four rooms? I supposed we were going to live the simple life and eat at the table of the village carpenter as part of "the cure." Why not cut it in half, both the accommodations & expense. [page 2]
The Lady's speech was very well done last night, and the audience was pleased. It rained cats & dogs at the last minute at the last minute [but?] the audience was good.
I am so glad you are having a comparitively good time. I am coming out of my slump pretty well and feel fine this [illegible]. I am quite convinced however that I shall have to be cautious for this year. With love to your companions [page 3] I am always, & forever yrs
