Dear Miss Addams,
The question has arisen whether you would be willing to have your name presented as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize. I do not know what the conditions are [but] I propose to inform myself, [neither] do I know how much enthusiasm has developed or will develop ↑among↓ our members in the matter, but I thought that it would ↑be↓ likely to be brought up at our Executive Committee meeting and that we ought to know ↑then↓ whether you would authorize the presentation of your name or not.
Always, as you well know,
Affectionately yours,
Emily Balch [signed]
↑Helen Cheever arrived Monday, the 15. It is so nice to have her here.↓
