My dear Mr. Hobbs:

I have just returned from a journey around the world and of course have been out of the country for almost a year. I am therefore sending your letter to Miss Woods, Secretary of the United States section, asking her to give the attitude of our organization to the National Defense Act of 1920. I am sure you will hear from her promptly.

We have no desire to conceal our attitude in regard to anything, in fact are naturally glad for propaganda of our views. I personally am not in sympathy with the pledge movement of the Women's Peace Society or the No War Societies to be found in various European countries notably a very large one in England, consisting largely of ex-soldiers but there are doubtless many members of our organization who are in sympathy. However, we can only interpret our official announcement.

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
