Dearest--
How are you today I wonder, it is wet and rainy here and I hope the South is better. Both Sister [Madeleine] and Mr Deknatel are in the [Presb'y] Hospital; the first not very ill, the latter a "puzzle" to his physicians who [vacilate] between the [appendix] and the kidneys. Mrs Jones has been quite ill and between the ill [page 2] and committees, I have had rather a lively day.
The new ↑American↓ article seems to me very poor, in the boarding school part and I have [having?] all the distress of [illegible] necessary, the [enclosed] editorial notwithstanding. I am very grateful for your letters and bless you for them and many another thing.
With love to your companion,
Alwys yrs, J. A.
