The American Convalescent Home for Vienna's Children

Prominent Americans have visited the HOME and expressed the opinion that it is a model institution of which all contributors have every reason to be proud.

Mayor Reumann of Vienna writes: "It affords me great pleasure and satisfaction to learn that the HOME will continue its broad-visioned relief action with the enthusiasm which has marked its work thus far. Vienna will be everlastingly thankful to the noble men and women who through their unselfish and far-sighted work are actually saving Vienna's children from extermination."

Founded upon the request of some of the most prominent men of Vienna, among them Prof. von Pirquet, Mayor Reumann, Dean [Haberda] of the Medical Faculty, Prof. Freud and others the HOME was opened on May 1st, 1920. But 250 children were accommodated to start with and the dispensary was then in its infancy.

[Today] the TIVOLI HOME alone accommodates 500 children; other institutions care for 1000 more at our expense and a special ward for 70 infants of 12 months or younger was recently added. The dispensary treats upwards of 100 children every day.

The AMERICAN CONVALESCENT HOME is being conducted on a hospital basis: first class physicians and specially trained nurses attend to children and their improvement is marked and rapid.

Such children as have sufficiently improved to be left to the care of ordinary convalescent homes (i.e. homes without hospital facilities) are placed in one of the FIVE HOMES WHICH ARE MAINTAINED BY US, thus making room for new and urgent cases.

There are still 150,000 children in need of treatment. We have now upwards of 1500 under our care at all times, but in order to continue our work we must depend upon a steady flow of money, lest we cannot save Vienna's poor children who see their only hope of life and health in our HOME. Therefore, please help us in the rescue of thousands of innocent little children.
