Dearest Clara

We have just left the Philippines where we dined with the Leonard [Woods] and saw everybody great and small in the Federation of Womans Clubs! And very interesting the [Filipino] women are doctors, lawyers [etc.] a full tide.

We are to be in China for April -- six weeks and [then] more time or less in Japan [page 2] reaching the U.S.A. about Sept. 1st. It is all very interesting but quite tiring enough to make the boat [journeys] between very nice and restful.

The Japanese boat belonged to the Germans -- one of the time to So. America and is most comfortable.

I meant to write a long letter but have just finished 27 notes to send out [with] our letters of introduction [page 3] to Shanghai and ↑find↓ myself in one of those non-writing states which are always afflicting me. Mary is out on deck or would send her love with this scrawl, it goes with all of mine with cordial greetings from us both to the other members of your household.

Always devotedly yours

Jane Addams
