Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Ill.

My dear Miss Addams:

You will perhaps remember that last night you said you would be glad to give Mr. and Mrs. George Burnham, Jr., of 1421 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, a note of introduction to Lady Courtney of [Penwith]. If you will do so, sending it either to them directly or to me, they will be very appreciative, and so shall I.

Now may I ask another favor. Would you mind writing a letter to us, expressing your judgment on the work we are trying to do? We don't mean to use it publicly, but we know that the confidence which you may express in us will be very useful in winning over some of the "doubting Thomases" whom we are endeavoring to ensnare.

Very sincerely yours,

James G. McDonald -- [signed]
Chairman.
