My dear Miss Addams:

I have not had opportunity before now to express to you my gratitude for your invitation for me to meet Dr. Ward a week ago Sunday and my regret at being unable to accept it. I wanted to come to Hull House to see him, but a hastily arranged meeting of our committee, to deal with problems presented by the Republican convention, prevented me. Please accept my apologies and my thanks.
