Biographical Text

Edward A. Steiner was born in Szemioa, Hungary and fled to the United States to avoid arrest for his sympathy with Slovaks. He served as an immigration expert advocating for better immigration reforms and writing books like The Immigration Tide. Steiner also worked as a Professor of Applied Christianity at Grinnell College.

Steiner married Sarah Levy in 1891. They had three children, Gretchen Henrietta, Henry York, and Richard. Sarah died in 1940 and he married Clara Elizabeth Perry in 1942. Steiner died in 1956.
