My dear Miss Martin:

Your telegram to Miss Addams will be forwarded to her at once but I am writing in the meantime to tell you that Miss Addams will return to Chicago early in April and has promised to speak in Birmingham, Alabama, for the Food Administration in the middle of the month.

I do not think therefore it will be possible for her to accept your invitation to be the chief speaker at the opening meeting of your campaign in Reno, but you will probably hear from her in reference to this.

I am writing because Miss Addams is going from place to place speaking in California and there may be some delay in reaching her. This will explain any such delay.

Very sincerely yours,

Eleanor Daggett Karsten [signed]
Secretary to Jane Addams
