WAR DEPARTMENT
WASHINGTON.

April 12, 1917.

My dear Miss Addams:

I have just received the letter, signed jointly by you, Miss Wald and Mr. Thomas, and will tomorrow bring to the attention of the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees the suggestions you make. Permit me to thank you for the generous consideration with which you have urged your objections to the provisions of the bill of which you do not approve, and also for the clearness with which you have stated this request for a modification.

Cordially yours,

Newton D. Baker [signed]
Secretary of War.
