My dear Mrs Van Winkle.
Your letter has just reached me. I wish very much that I could go to New Jersey and speak for you but it is impossible as I have been abroad for some time and must be in Chicago during October.
Perhaps some other time when I am in the East I may be more fortunate and able to make my engagements fit in with yours.
Regretting that I cannot be more satisfactory and with best wishes for the success of your meeting.
