Amalie Hannig was the co-founder of the Hull-House Music School with Eleanor Sophia Smith. Hannig was working as a piano instructor at Klindworth Conservatory in Germany when she met Smith, and they bonded over their love for music and their similar philosophies on how music should be taught. She came to the United States in 1892 and taught piano at Hull-House prior to the founding of the music school. Hannig also wrote "Christmas at Hull-House" in The Ladies Home Journal in 1911.
