Hull House,
Chicago, Illinois.
Dear Miss Addams:
I wish all success to the errand to The Hague. It cannot be "a fool's errand"; it must result in great good, and I can see no movement more hopeful. It is a great effort, but as [John] Stuart Mill observes: "Small efforts do not produce small effects, they produce no effects at all".
We want you in California on August 16th if such a thing is possible; but if not, we want you on August 25th, when you will meet the same audience. We would merely shift the program a little.
Very sincerely yours,
