Dear Miss Addams,

I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you this morning; but I was compelled to leave as I am starting for York in the early afternoon. Some time ago a little series of meetings -- York, Liverpool and Stockport -- were arranged for me and I cannot disappoint my friends.

I cannot express how sorry I am not to be able to attend your reception as to be present at the public meeting [tomorrow] evening.

You will remember that we met at [Budapest] the year before last.

I do not know the London address of Dr Aletta Jacobs. I gather from what I heard this morning that [page 2] she is here. Will you convey to her my love and my keen appreciation of the splendid work she has been doing.

I hope to be in London again on Saturday. You may still be with us. In any case I will then make [inquiries] at St [Ermin's] Hotel.

Thanking you, in the name of us all for the fine stand you have taken and for your invaluable help to us

I remain
Yours sincerely & gratefully

C. Despard
