My dear Miss Wald

I certainly will accept the [enclosed] check. I lost the purse myself. I had only asked you to hold it for me while I spoke -- at any rate it isn't a matter of consequence and I am sure you won't insist. I have been at Walton Place much of the time since my return. Miss Waters has doubtless written you of Mrs Smith's death. The family are really now out of their long anxiety and I am doing what I can for them. The others at H. H. are doing what they can for Miss Waters and [she] [page 2] seems to be enjoying it.

You were so good to me in N.Y. my gratitude goes out to you whenever I think of it.

Poor Mary sends you her love --

Always yours devotedly Jane Addams
