Miss Jane Addams,
800 South Halsted Street,
Chicago, Illinois.

Dear Miss Addams: --

Permit me to thank you for your letter of the nineteenth. Last night we were all very enthusiastic about a lecture which Professor Kühnemann delivered on the Friendship of Goethe and Schiller. I think, however, his Tolstoy lecture is still better. He is becoming so very popular that I presume he has not a great many open dates, particularly as he is doing regular work with us during this semester, I am very sure, however, that an invitation to lecture to your Hull House people would appeal to him very strongly, and I would suggest that is you care for his services, you should write to him soon, addressing you letter care of the University Club in this city. I presume he would be glad to do it without charge although, of course, I know nothing about this. I am also very sure that you would enjoy having him with you for a short visit as he is such a delightful man. I should be glad, indeed, to improve the first opportunity to see you in Chicago. I am glad to know that there are some things you want to discuss with me for this is exactly the [page 2] way that I feel. It seems to me like a long time since I have seen you. I should <shall> also be glad if I can bring Mrs. Ely with me. We are expecting to sail for Europe, January the thirtieth, and I hope I may see you before then. If not, I will try to see you next fall.

Faithfully yours,
