Hon. Albert J. Beveridge,
Indianapolis,
Indiana.
My dear Mr. Beveridge,
I thank you very much for your letters, and I am sure that nothing but a vicious interpretation could call non-partisanship in municipal affairs a desertion from the Progressive Party. I have just accepted an invitation from New York to speak at the Progressive dinner held on Lincoln's birthday, and I hope that will silence any talk of defection. I never have answered [newspaper] comments; it is an endless undertaking if one begins, is it not?
With all best wishes for the New Year to Mrs. Beveridge and yourself, I am,
Very sincerely yours,
Jane Addams. [signed]
