Biographical Text

Anna Morgan went to school in Auburn, New York, until her father's death in 1876, after which her family moved to Chicago. In 1877 she went to the Hershey Music School to study elocution. She later became a dramatic reader, and worked with the Redpath Lyceum Bureau from 1880 to 1883. In 1884 she joined the New Chicago Opera House Conservatory, where she became a teacher of drama. In 1898 she opened the Anna Morgan Studios in Chicago's Fine Arts Building. Morgan also wrote books about speech and theater: An Hour with Delsarte, Selected Readings, designed to impart to the student an appreciation of literature in its wider sense, and The Art of Speech and Deportment. Morgan died of coronary sclerosis in 1936.
