MISS JANE [ADDAMS],
35 South Hall Street,
Chicago, Illinois.

My dear Miss [Addams]:--

The Secretary of the Civic Improvement League has resigned, and they are now trying to find some worthy gentleman to take hold of the work. Much needs to be done and a great deal of work can be done in Saint Louis if we get the right kind of a man for Secretary.

The salary paid will be around $1500.00 and possibly they would be able to pay around $1800.00 if they got the right kind of man. It is my great desire that they do get the right kind, and I, therefore, write to you to ask if you know of such a gentleman or not. If you do I shall be glad if you will give me his address so that I ↑the League↓ may write him a direct.

Thanking you for your kindness and with most cordial regards, I beg to remain,

Yours very truly,

Gerard Swope [signed]

Vice Chairman
