Wants More High Schools.

Miss Jane Addams pleaded for more high schools and the elimination of the "screwed down" desk seats.

"Chairs should supplant the desk seats in all the high schools," she urged. "Such an arrangement would be more in harmony with civilized life. The children are made to sit in curious rows in the schoolroom never seen in any other department of life. There should be more high schools, so that the children may be nearer to the neighborhoods in which they live. When they are sent twenty and thirty blocks to school every day they grow away from their parents and their homes."
