My dear Charlie

Your letter came this morning and I am afraid that the report I sent about Chicago conditions was too discouraging. Of course the [salary] will be small at first but will come up and I am expecting of course to stand by my offer of helping out. It will be a great pleasure to all of us to have you in Chicago and after all we only go through life once and companionship is a very large part of it. [page 2]

You must write me if Mary's illness calls for special funds, it is too [forlorn] to think of her under typhoid. I can't write more now in the Xmas rush [but] with love to you all I am always your loving aunt
