Biographical Text

Christian Friedrich, Baron von Stockmar, was a physician born in Coburg, Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Germany). He was the personal physician to Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg and his wife, Princess Charlotte of the United Kingdom. After the Princess died in childbirth, his role became more of a political than a medical advisor to the Prince. Stockmar associated with Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and helped arrange his marriage with Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. He was a strong supporter of German nationalism. Stockmar died in 1863.

Baron von Stockmar married Fanny Sommer in 1832. They had three children: Ernst Alfred Christian, Marie, and Carl August.
