Biographical Text

Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher, as well as a central figure of modern philosophy. He was born into an extremely religious and pious family. Kant was educated in Bible studies and religion over math and science while growing up. However, in his later life, he was skeptical of religion. Kant attended the Collegium Fridericianum and graduated in 1740, later attending the University of Königsberg when he was sixteen years old. Kant spent the rest of his career at this university, achieving much in the philosophy of ethics and metaphysics. Kant published numerous books such as The False Subtlety of the Four Syllogistic Figures, Attempt to Introduce the Concept of Negative Magnitudes into Philosophy, Critique of Pure Reason, and Metaphysics of Morals. In his philosophy, Kant argued that morality comes from reason, the human mind creates the human experience, and that it is impossible to truly ever know the world. Kant also believed that peace could be maintained through democracy and international cooperation. He also lectured on anthropology.

Kant died in 1804.
