Dear Miss Addams:
My heartiest thanks for your kind letter of January 16, which would have been answered much earlier had I not been away.
I knew I could count upon your willingness to help in the Conservation fight, and I am sending you by this mail other copies of the material which did not reach you. We are, I think, going to keep our friends, the enemy, even from making the attempt to turn the National Forests over to the States at this session of Congress. If we can, it will mean real progress, and nothing will help more than a statement from you.
I am just getting my head a little above the accumulations that piled up during the campaign, and I hope to have some suggestions to lay before you on the matter we discussed at Chicago before very long.
