Biographical Text

Stanley Robert McCormick was the grandson of Cyrus McCormick, heir to International Harvester fortune. He helped with the merger of this business with other manufacturers to form International Harvester as one of the heads of the company. In 1909, Stanley McCormick was deemed incompetent due to schizophrenia. His wife fought a legal battle with Stanley's doctors, believing he was not receiving the proper treatment needed for his condition, and this battle became very public. McCormick's illness and his wife's legal battle became the subject for a book by T. Coraghessan Boyle titled Riven Rock.

McCormick married Katherine Dexter McCormick in 1905. They did not have any children. Stanley spent the rest of his life being treated for schizophrenia and died in 1947.
