My dear Mrs Lewis

Thank you so much for your dear letter which has just come. My operation was an amputation of the right breast and the convalescence is rather slow but we are in a beautiful mountain spot and before we sail Aug 23d I shall hope to be quite restored.

We have a fine group of women here in Japan and the peace sentiment is wide spread. I have had all sorts of honors thrust upon me as a "Peace Advocate."

The [enclosed] little views are for your children please give my love to your family. I hope to be back to Chicago by Sept 25" -- my writing is not improved by a maimed arm I fear but I am always devotedly yours Jane Addams
