CHICAGO. Sept. 23. -- Hull House today was decked in holiday attire for the return of its founder, Jane Addams, from a nine-months' tour of the world, returning but recently from China, Japan and the Philippines.
Thousands of children from Chicago's West Side welcomed her. Miss Addams' main object in taking her world tour was recreation, but she said she observed social service methods and the conditions of women in other countries wherever she had the opportunity.
Women are voting in India and Burma, she said, and are displaying considerable interest in their new franchise. She left Japan but a few weeks before the earthquake.
"I was surprised to find such well developed social service work going on in China and Japan," she said. "Social leagues in both countries are taking important steps in social amelioration."
