Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago.

Dear Miss Addams:

You may be surprised to learn that I am to supplant B. O. Flower as editor of the Twentieth Century Magazine. Not only that, but the change has been made so suddenly that I am up against the completion of the November issue, and turn to my old friends for help. The magazine has had a hopeless financial struggle, and it will be a year or more before I can hope to recompense contributors.

Have you anything in the barrel which is too "strong" for the conventional magazines and which you would be willing to contribute to what I hope to make the chief unadulterated magazine of radical democracy? I shall be very grateful for anything which will let me have the stamp of your approval on this effort.

Yours faithfully,

Charles Zueblin [signed]
