My dear Mr. Ewing:--
I was just about to write to you thanking you for the barrel of apples you kindly sent us from Miss. Culver when your letter came. I was horrified to hear of the fire. It was a harsh experience for the newcomer among us. Will you give my love and sympathy to Mrs. Ewing and receive my congratulations to both of you. I am coming very soon to see little Helen.
Am I right in assuming that Miss Culver is still in Cuba?
Sincerely yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
