WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM
August 11, 1924.
Dear Friends:
We are happy to state that all the bills of the Washington Congress and the Summer School have been met, a full accounting of which will be found in the official Report. Unfortunately there was not a sufficient amount to pay also the expense of printing the Proceedings. We have always, however, regarded this as an independent undertaking and raised part at least of its cost as a separate fund. This time the estimated cost is lower than it has sometimes been, as the United States is defraying the cost of an English text only, whereas previously the official proceedings have included French and German versions as well.
Mrs. Louis F. Post of Washington is giving her services as editor, and hopes for completion of the Report before September first. The estimated cost is about $1300 ↑$550.↓ Of this amount, a large part has already been secured but the need for obtaining the remainder is urgent.
The account row stands as follows:
Contribution from Summer School Fund | $750.00 |
From Dorothy North | 150.00 |
[From] Jane Addams | 100.00 |
[From] Zona Gale | 25.00 |
↑[From] [Others?]↓ | ↑45↓ |
$1025.00 ↑[1080?]↓ | |
Amount still to be secured | $275.00 ↑450.↓ |
Copies of the Report go, free, to delegates of the Congress and to Associate Members of the W.I.L.P.F., to the National Sections and Branches, and still others must be sent free to Libraries and for purposes of record. As many as possible will be sold both here and abroad for 75 cents apiece, and this should bring in at least enough to cover the quite considerable cost of sending reports to every part of the world. [page 2]
In spite of all that you have already done both for the Congress and Summer School, may we not ask you once more to help us to clear up this undertaking and set our energies free for the new and constructive work for which our successful international meetings have prepared the way so promisingly. Thirty ↑45↓ ten dollar contributions would put us right.
Contributions should be sent to
Hoping we are not presuming upon your unfailing courtesy, we are
Faithfully yours,
